This Appropriate Care Guide (ACG) highlights the use of urate-lowering therapy (ULT) to achieve the management goal for gout, when lifestyle management is insufficient. Prophylaxis against and management of acute flares are also covered. The ACG includes two patient education aids to assist discussions between healthcare professionals and patients.

2. Do not delay urate-lowering therapy (ULT) for patients with gout who meet ULT treatment criteria.
