Guidance Recommendations

The Ministry of Health’s Medical Technology Advisory Committee has recommended subsidy for 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography with computed tomography (FDG-PET-CT)

➢ for the management of the following oncological indications:

Limited subtypes of the following tumours:

  • Cervical cancer

  • Colorectal cancer

  • Non-small-cell lung cancer

  • Solitary pulmonary nodule

  • Hodgkin’s disease (lymphoma)

  • Non-Hodgkin’s disease (lymphoma)

  • Melanoma

  • Myeloma

  • Oesophageal and oesophago-gastric junction cancer

  • Ovarian cancer

  • Breast cancer

    • Locally advanced (Stage III) disease

    • Suspected recurrent disease

  • Central nervous system cancer

    • Suspected residual or recurrent malignant brain cancer

  • Head and neck cancer

    • Nasopharyngeal cancer

    • Squamous cell carcinomas

    • Salivary gland tumours

  • Sarcoma

    • High/intermediate grade sarcomas or clinically aggressive sarcomas

    • Ewing’s sarcoma

    • Osteosarcoma

    • Rhabdomyosarcoma

➢ only the approved FDG-PET-CT functions as per Annex should be subsidised for the above indications.

Funding status

FDG-PET-CT is recommended for subsidy for the management of patients with selected oncological indications, in line with the abovementioned recommendations.

Subsidies will not apply to other oncological indications or PET-CT services utilising non-FDG tracers.
