Guidance Recommendations
The Ministry of Health’s Medical Technology Advisory Committee has recommended:
Germline genetic testing for hereditary breast cancer and hereditary ovarian cancer in individuals with relevant risk factors;
Risk-reducing mastectomy in individuals with a pathogenic variant or likely pathogenic variant associated with hereditary breast cancer; and
Risk-reducing bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy in individuals with a pathogenic variant or likely pathogenic variant associated with hereditary ovarian cancer.
Funding status
Germline genetic testing, risk-reducing mastectomy, and risk-reducing bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy are recommended for subsidy from 1 December 2026. Subsidies apply only when performed in line with the clinical criteria listed in the Annex.
